How do I get started?

After reviewing our investment criteria, we recommend you contact us prior to filling out the application so that you can review your proposed project with the appropriate NCIF staff member for your state.

Investment Criteria

The NCIF provides flexible financing and investments and targeted technical assistance to a variety of environmentally-related businesses, which range from small crafts enterprises and specialty food manufacturers to multi-million dollar forest products enterprises. We also finance and invest in businesses involved with Environmental & Green Products / Services.

NCIF is dedicated to making investments in companies and projects that promote sustainable economic development and have a positive impact on human health and the natural environment, based on our triple bottom-line approach.

Sectors of particular interest include: heritage and recreation-based tourism; value-added and sustainable agriculture; water/wastewater treatment; sustainable forestry and forest products; integrated waste management; and technology that promotes improved efficiency and safety in industrial processing.

What do I need to apply for a loan?

Completed loan application (see below to download application) signed by all business owners
Three years of personal tax returns and a current personal financial statement for all business owners
Three years of business tax returns (if available) and a current profit and loss statement and balance sheet
Business plan (for all start-ups)
Three-year financial projections (along with underlying assumptions) showing that the business can repay the loan
Copies of any leases, buy-sell agreements, operating agreements, partnerships, and vendor estimates (as appropriate)
Evidence that the business is current with payment of all required state and payroll taxes, as applicable
