Wilderness Voyageurs Inc. (WVI) began operating guided whitewater rafting trips on the Lower Youghiogheny River in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, in 1964. They are the oldest and longest operating provider of whitewater rafting east of the Mississippi. Wilderness Voyageurs Outfitters Inc. and all affiliate companies are guided by the following principles: (1) Provide experiences to their customers that enrich their lives; (2) operate the organization in a socially and environmentally responsible fashion; and (3) promote responsible stewardship of the local natural and cultural resources to all that have contact with their organization.

Role of NCIF:

Wilderness Voyageurs managed and operated rafting trips and tourism services for the “Northern Operations” of Appalachian Wildwaters for the last eight years. In 2008, NCIF provided funding for Wilderness Voyageurs to acquire the assets of "Northern Operations" including strategic real estate holdings, commercial river permits and the infrastructure necessary to continue the delivery of the existing operation, and to lay the foundation for future product development.
