Harman’s North Fork Cottages is a family-owned business located along the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River in Cabins, WV. The business has been in operation since 1939. The current generation took over the lodging company in 1996 and implemented successive phases of development that led to 15 cabins available for rental year round. Located near Seneca Rocks, a gateway to outdoor recreation opportunities in the Potomac Highlands region of West Virginia, Harman’s provides guests with easy access to hiking, rock climbing, wildlife viewing as well as fishing. The company stocks the stretch of river adjacent to its property for catch and release fishing by its guests.
NCIF helped finance a new cabin and upgrades to three other cabins and laid the groundwork for the next phase of the company's growth. NCIF is also working with the company on an environmental management plan to ensure that its operations will have minimal environmental impact.
Demand for the rental units during the peak season exceeded available supply; the company turned away hundreds of requests for lodging in 2007. NCIF funding helped the company initiate a multi-stage expansion to build additional lodging capacity to meet the demand. NCIF also helped secure the company's enrollment in the West Virginia Division of Environmental Protection's Travel Green West Virginia - an initiative to assist tourism enterprises in improving environmental, socio-cultural, and economic performance.
